I don't know whether this topic has been adressed already, but I was wondering about the possibility of implimenting a voicemail system on the zone, something which compliments the private qn and/or private message systems.
In other words, you would be able to send a short voice message (e.g. 20 seconds for standard, and 2 minutes for premium members), to a specific user.
There can be a reply and/or a forward option too.
I konw there will be bandwidth issues, but was just thinking.
also you should be able to save in them in your computer if you wanted to as wma files.
only one issue i like it but bandwidth, admens cls others let me know on bandwidth could it support it
If they did get voicemail for the Zone BBS site 20 seconds wouldn't be enough for regular members and if most regular members have problem setting up a 20 second Audio Profile, I honestly doubt anyone can leave a voicemail in that amount of time unless your a fast talker that is and which I'm not. I was thinking more around at least 2 minutes for regular members and 4 minutes for premium members and yes it all depends on if the bandwidth can handle it but yeah this is a good idea. However I hope someday this will be possible if it can't be done right now.
Actually we were asked on the zoner's club board what extra's we'd like for premium members. I suggested voicemail for premium, and suggested it only be 20 or 30 seconds. you really don't need more than that. A voice mail, is far easier to create than an audio profile, as you have something to say asumedly, and aren't just doing it because you can. Yes, bandwidth would be an issue, but believe it was an idea that admin was considering.
wouldn't that be a bit rough on us dial up users? I love voice email, but unfortunately, my dial up connection is hovering between 28.8 kbps and 26.4 kbps, and I have this terrible feeling that it will eventually stay at 26.4 kbps and not go up again. If a dial up user received 3 or 4 voice messages, wouldn't it take a long time to download them?
wonderwoman
hmm wonderwoman, the time it takes to dlownload them, when does that become J and chris's problem? Don't use it if you don't want to wait. Secondly, to Chris (MK), 2 minutes for reg members is rediculous. I would even understand due to bandwidth issues if reg. members didn't have the function to use VoiceMail. Just my thoughts.
well ex,cuse, me.
wonderwoman
well, hmmm dial up sucks in general just my opinion but ww what ya could do is switch to people pc ten or so bucks a month and faster connect. I think 20 30 sec is plenty but hey ya never know
If we did do voicemail for the zone, I assure you, it'll most likely be for premium, seeing as they're the ones technically paying for the bandwidth, and they're the ones who deserve it. It is a good suggestion, but would definitely consume lots of bandwidth, and could not be saved on the system for very long, and probably removed after 7 days, so the option to make it downloadable might be a good idea.
I see it as utterly pointless for both regulars and premiums, but Meh. It's all up to the admins. I mean you guys don't get enough with skype and ventrilo and such? Realistically how many people would actually use it.
Yeah. I think voicemail would be cool too, but I really think, being that nonpaying members can only have 20 minutes on their profiles, that that amount of time wouldn't be enough to send a voicemail. The only thing I'd see it good for , and this is just my opinion, is if someone just wants to hear another's voice. But for that, most of us have either Ventrillo or Skype anyway, and could say much more thru those things, and there is also a program called Handybits where you can send your voice in a regular email. So I really wouldn't see the point of voicemail on here at all, personally. But if it is still a thing that would be put on here, it would be best for Premium members, and would probably even be more of an incentive to draw more paying members, which would be a good thing anyway. *smiles* I know if I had the money, that would be one of the cool things I wouldn't mind paying for, besides the QN history thing. (I know it all comes in one package of course, but those 2 would be a pretty good incentive for me to pay. *smiles*)
I've a thought. Could you guys possibly find away to interface with archive.org? They've got space, bandwidth, space, bandwidth, space, bandwidth, space...
hmmm, I probably wouldn't use the feature too much, but I only think it should be for premiums, and please, please fix qn history!
Good suggestions, as always. Thanks for them all, and keep em coming.
